Our large cabins are 1.5 story, 1200 sq. ft. and our other cabins are 1 story, 750 sq. ft. We like to refer to them as Coal Camp Houses, so…our heritage birthed the name Coal Camp Lodging. This Matewan area was built around coal mining and timbering. The early coal companies-built company houses in what were called “COAL CAMPS”. I grew up in what was named RED JACKET #6, in a small company built home. We are a family owned-business, my wife and I were born and raised here in Bloody Mingo County ( Nicknamed After The Mine Wars In 1920-1921 ). Our families have made their living through the years as coal miners and working within our communities. We have taken this opportunity that the Hatfield McCoy trails have brought to southern WV to invest in Coal Camp Houses to hopefully provide jobs, enhance our own community and to show off the hospitality that Matewan has to offer.
